TL;DR
Some businesses start with a plan. Casa Mocha started with a sister who wanted her family close.
We sat down with Sarah, owner of Casa Mocha, to hear how a banking career turned into one of Mississauga's most talked-about cafés.
"It was my sister's idea. She wanted to be closer to us, so she made us all quit our jobs to open a business with her. I was working in banking. I thought I loved what I was doing. But food was always my love language."
Sarah grew up in this Lakeview neighbourhood, and she noticed a gap. The options were burgers, shawarma or pizza. Nothing catered to people watching their protein or their calories.
She knew that struggle first-hand. She lost 100 pounds by changing how she ate, and she found almost nothing nearby that fit her new diet. So she built the menu she wished existed. High protein, lower calorie, nothing fried. Everything is grilled or air-fried.
The signature dish came from a craving. Sarah tasted chicken Caesar wraps at a spot in the States and hunted for them back home. She never found them. So she started testing recipes in her own kitchen.
"I started slowly trying recipes at home, and that's where I had my guinea pigs. Everybody would try them, and they said, you have to open something."
The first months were slow. Really slow, right up until summer. Sarah questioned the whole decision.
"It's really scary when you're not making ends meet and you're really not even breaking even, and a lot is coming out. What my husband says is that it was a very expensive hobby."
Money kept going out and barely came back. She worried about staying afloat and asked how long her savings would last. The backup plan was quiet but real. Go back to the old job. That uncertainty sat with her every day. Then things changed.
Casa Mocha did not run a TikTok account. That did not stop it from going viral there. Food creators found the wrap on their own, calling it a US-style favourite done better and warning followers the shop was already selling out.
Inside, the regulars were still coming in, but so were strangers. A fifth new face, then a tenth.
"They said, oh, we saw it on TikTok. And I was like, who did this? Here we are, two people on shift, running with our heads cut off. We ran out of ice, ran out of everything. We did not know how the power of social media was really going to affect us."
She credits three things for the momentum. Social media, Google reviews and fresh ingredients that bring people back. The reviews back her up, with customers calling the café a hidden gem and a spot they keep returning to.
The team came together without a single formal interview. Sarah gave everyone a shot based on connection alone.
"I did no interviews. Anybody could look great on paper and on their resume. I just felt if I connected with you, right away you're going to be part of our team."
That warmth shows up in the food. People come back for the service and the homey feeling the shop pours into every visit.
If you are new, here is where to start.
The chicken Caesar wrap is the top seller. It is so big you can feed two people for the price of one sandwich, or save half for later.
The smoked meat sandwich is Sarah's personal favourite. She has eaten it every day for the past 10 months. It comes on fresh focaccia, and she thinks it is underrated because everyone reaches for the wrap first.
For the beverage menu, “I recommend the mango coconut matcha. It's literally a vacation in a cup. Every time you take that sip, you do feel like you're on vacation.”
The coffee runs on smooth Brazilian beans.
When a shop goes from quiet mornings to lineups out the door, the payment system stops being an afterthought. For Sarah, the choice came down to the same instinct she used to hire her team. She backs people she trusts.
"When I invest in anything, I invest in the person as well as the network itself. Moneris was my first choice when it came to a POS system."
That trust held up once the crowds arrived. On a busy floor, a held payment or a frozen machine is the last thing a two-person team can afford. Sarah says that never happened.
"Any issue I ever had, I would just contact my rep, and within seconds he would have an answer for me, or he would send me to the right channels. It's a very smooth process. Money's in the account the next day. Never had an issue with money being held."
She notices the difference when she visits other spots and sees their systems down mid-service. Even on the rare internet hiccup, her setup kept pace.
"We have not had any time where the machine was down. Even if we had an internet error, it was resolved within seconds, and our rep went above and beyond and gave us all their alternatives by the time it came back up. Moneris Go Restaurant is the most convenient and quickest way to get a payment."
For a business running lean and fast, that reliability is part of what keeps the doors open.
"Moneris Go Restaurant was my top choice, and it will continue to be my top choice."
Casa Mocha's first year proves what happens when you build something you believe in. Sarah bet on fresh ingredients, real connection and a menu she wished existed, and the neighbourhood answered. On September 27, 2026, the café marks one year at 975 Lakeshore Road East in Mississauga. Stop in for the chicken Caesar wrap that started it all, or the smoked meat sandwich the regulars swear by!
