Update two-factor authentication to a more secure method

Two-factor authentication (2FA) uses two methods to verify your identity. The first method is your password. The second method uses your email address, by default, to send you a verification code. However, there are other methods of 2FA that are more secure:

Set up text messaging (SMS)

2FA methods
  1. On the User Settings page, click the Security tab.
  2. On the Security tab, scroll down to Two-factor authentication.
  3. Under Text message (SMS), click Set-up.
  1. When the Mobile Two Factor Authentication Set-up window appears, enter your mobile phone number including the area code, then click Update.
  2. Moneris sends a verification code by text message to your mobile phone.
  1. In the portal, enter the verification code you received by text message, then click Verify Code.

Your Moneris Portal account is now set up for two-factor authentication using SMS text messaging. 

Set up an authenticator app

Follow these steps to set up an authenticator app as your preferred method of two-factor authentication.

  1. Install an authenticator app on your smartphone. If needed, refer to instructions that came with your smartphone on how to find and install apps. Some better-known authenticator apps include:

Note: If you already have an authenticator app installed, an additional one is not required. 

 

  1. On the User Settings page, click the Security tab.
  2. On the Security tab, scroll down to Two-factor authentication.
  3. Under Setup Authenticator App, click Set-up.
  1. The portal displays a QR code.
  2. Use the camera on your smartphone to scan the QR code. This will direct you to the authenticator app you installed.
  3. Your authenticator app will provide you with a verification code.
  1. In the portal, scroll down to view  “Step 3 - Verify”.
  2. Enter the verification code and click Verify Code.

Your Moneris Portal account is now set up for two-factor authentication using your authenticator app.
