Based on whether the card presented has a chip and magnetic stripe, or a magnetic stripe only, follow the appropriate entry method described below.
Note: Contactless entry (tapped) and manual entry (keyed) methods are not supported.
If the UnionPay card has a chip and magnetic stripe:
Insert the card into the chip card reader and follow the prompts on the screen.
If the UnionPay card has a magnetic stripe only:
Swipe the card through the magnetic stripe reader and follow the prompts on the screen.
Note: See How to Identify UnionPay Cards for more information on what the cards look like.
When the cardholder is present, UnionPay transactions require card verification by cardholder signature. In addition to a signature, some cards require PIN entry.
The cardholder must sign the Merchant copy of the receipt, including transactions where they have entered a PIN.
Both UnionPay chip cards and magnetic stripe only cards may prompt the cardholder for a personal identification number (PIN). Some cards permit the cardholder to bypass the PIN if they have configured the card in this manner with the issuing bank.
Note: It is up to the cardholder to know whether their card requires a PIN.
