Address Verification Service (AVS) - Allows card-not-present merchants to check cardholder’s billing address with the card Issuer.
- Available for Visa, MasterCard, and Discover.
Card Validation Digit (CVD) - Visa: CVD2, MasterCard: CVC2, American Express: CID.
- CVD is a 3-4 digit code on the back of the credit card (for Visa and MasterCard) and in case of American Express cards, it is located on the front (see diagrams below).
- Helps ensure that the customer making a Mail Order/ Telephone Order (MOTO) or eCommerce purchase is actually in possession of their credit card. CVD is not part of the card number itself.

| Key Benefits:
- Reduce Fraud
- CVD and AVS offer checks on card information and transaction validity, providing you with added peace of mind and a stronger line of defence against fraud and chargebacks.
- Save Time
- Focus on your business of fulfilling orders rather than on authorization concerns, such as having to contact your customers and issuers to verify cardholder data.
- Reduce Shipping errors and costs (AVS)
- Since billing addresses are verified with issuers, AVS can help reduce shipping errors and associated costs.
